who loves us

brecken of the chic life writes: i have to say, i am impressed. you do absolutely gorgeous work and i can tell that you put heart into it...

ah, well thanks brecken!

it turns out that we dig your stuff right back sugar britches!

just look at this "peacock" dresser!

i might want to marry it.

also in love with her "about me" in which she articulates rather perfectly what businesses like ours are about: i'm all about supporting the local first, not really down with the powerhouse corporate america.

who likes it. see more at www.the-chic-life.blogspot.com

on the same note, found this in my archive of bob dylan/joan baez photos:

protest against the rising tide of conformity.

paint a picture. write a song. hug a stranger. spread some love. and follow our blogs. happy tuesday kids.

just a reminder

to do something you can be proud of. every. single. day.

yesterday i completed these beauties for the rosa dresser i'm working on:

for sale: custom made stone flower drawer pulls. $6

you pick your own colors, and i hand paint and glaze them. similar to the "melon" pulls at anthropologie, but custom built and a wee bit cheaper. (sorry anthro, i adore you but sometimes we just can't afford you!)

pulls like this can be used to bring new life to any dresser. like this gorgeous antique i found on ksl classifieds:

can you believe someone is selling it for only $89?

if i were in northern utah right now it would absolutely be mine. alas, i am not. so one of you should purchase it, and if you'd like any work done on it (ie a paint job, wallpaper lined drawers, custom hardware) you know WHO to call!

urban renewal

i've been working at urban renewal (in st george, ut) once again for the last month. and though the experience has been a complete joy from start to finish, i am relatively sure that i will not be getting any kind of paycheck whatsoever.

why? you ask. well, this is why:

rusty iron headboard and footboard. to die for.

the softest rose pink vintage comforter i have ever cuddled up to in my life.

pocket watch hanging clock? well that just HAS to be mine!

iron hand. i'm hoping that if i purchase this baby i will have a spot to throw my keys, and then perhaps i will not lose them every other tuesday and some fridays.

trippy hippie canvas photo of mushrooms? why yes please.

(do forgive the horrid cell phone photos, it was all i had at the moment.)

i am clearly excited to move into a new apartment in the salty city with my dearest most best friend ever. though we were hoping to each have our own studio and finally be grown ups living alone, we have opted for the comfort and cheapnessosity of a two bedroom together.

wait until you see the loveseat we purchased at urban. photos coming oh so soon.

if you are living in the southern utah area and have never been in to urban renewal i have but one question to ask you: are you sure you are not suffering from some sort of brain disorder?

if you are not in the southern utah area you can get a partial urban renewal experience by visiting their website at www.jennylarsen.com

ps i changed the playlist at the bottom of this blog to include all my most favorite songs that we spin on vinyl everyday at urban renewal. oh, and if you wander in to urban anytime soon, please tell armando and shawna that their little lucy misses them so very much.

recipe for a zooey table

you must begin with a very gray day. the kind of day that whispers in your ear impish discouragements such as: this day is not for you. nothing creative will come of it. it is damp and dreary and you mine as well throw on your pajamas and watch tv.

sitting in your workspace should be a leggy little pine table. knotty in all the right ways. she should be as bland and boring as the day is bleak, but you must believe in her potential with all your soggy heart.

then, and this part is key, you must find a lovely old forgotten friend tucked away in some secret spot. this friend can be anything from a piece of inspirational fabric, to an old raggedy sweater made out of the perfect mustard tweed.

next, whisk in a healthy portion of a jd salinger novel. raise high the roof beam carpenters, catcher in the rye, or franny and zooey are all acceptable options.

finally, if you find just the right knobs (they must be whimsical and feminine and a tidge odd) you may luck out with none other than a serendipitous zooey table.

or, if you'd prefer, this one can be yours for $79
note: no salvageable books were harmed in our little photo shoot.
